Love this makeover by Bless’er House
We bought a beach house last week and it’s going to be built in the Olivia Beach community in Lincoln City in just three months! Which means I need to get a hustle on any major design decisions asap.
My first project?
I decided to tackle the main floor powder room because it was a small room to start off with. I also chose this room in case any of the items I needed were on backorder. The floor tile I picked out takes 8-10 weeks to deliver, so it’s a good thing to get a move on.
The Style + Inspiration
I’ve decided on a rustic farmhouse look because I’ve obviously been watching too many episodes of Fixer-Upper and I didn’t want to take the beach theme too literally. We’re going to keep it subtle and casual as much as possible to give it that cozy cottage feel.
I also spotted this photo from Jenna Sue Design (above) and I loved her flooring choice and how she mixed rustic wood features into her room – major inspiration right there.
The Wall
I sticking with white for now and having a shiplap feature wall installed where the sink and toilet are. The rest of the walls will just be plain white walls so you don’t feel too closed in. Here’s a great example from Shades of Blue Interiors and her awesome shelving idea for above the toilet.
The Floor Tile
I spotted this Agadir White tile on Pinterest via Jenna Sue’s post and after seeing them installed in her guest bathroom, I decided that these handmade cement tiles were worth the splurge because I only needed about 30 square feet of them for our beach house powder room.
They were still mucho expensive because the delivery fees were insane for something so heavy. I’m going to try to stick to in-stock tiles from big box stores from now on.
The Vanity
I’m not sure on this vanity yet, but I ordered anyway since it was only $290 with delivery! Who knows what it will look like in-person, but I want that rustic wood look without spending too much.
I ordered the 24″ model as we only have 27″ max to work with. I’m thinking of getting a marble-style (faux) vanity top to make it look a bit nicer and then a black faucet to tie into the tiles. I think it needs a basket underneath it too, as I don’t see myself putting towels under there.
This one was a close runner-up but I couldn’t justify the $850 price tag plus the additional for the vanity top and faucet for a powder room. Though this Toby Vanity does look a lot sturdier. Maybe I can replace the plain old knobs on mine with black handles to give it more interesting detail.
The Lighting Feature
My vanity is 24″ and this Mason jar-inspired vanity light is 24″ – so I’m hoping it’s going to look ok because the selection of 3 bulb vanity lights are much bigger than the 2 bulb type. I think I’m going to have to go with a decent-sized wall mirror to make it all look ok. I looked online but HomeGoods is probably where I’ll end up as I’ve seen great looking rustic wood farm-style mirrors there for under $50.
Since I blew most of the budget on the tile, I have to be cost-efficient with everything else. This light is only around $70 at Lowes which is an amazing deal because I’ve seen fancy fixtures go up to $300.
So that’s where we are right now with designing the house! We are hoping to see it again this weekend and have a design meeting with the amazing team there who have all been so incredibly accommodating with all of our customization ideas.
