5 Makeup Products Every Beauty Obsessive Needs

5 Makeup Products Every Beauty Obsessive Needs | A Girl, Obsessed
With so many different beauty products on the market these days, it can be hard to know what you really need vs. what is just being currently hyped. While I love a good makeup launch or beauty recommendation, I usually try to stick with my core group of tried-and-tested favorites. Here are 5 types of makeup that are must haves for every beauty obsessive...

SETTING POWDER

Having a good setting powder is crucial, especially if you have oily skin. Not only does it keep your makeup from creasing, but it also helps your look stay in place all day (which is a must for the summertime). Some of my favorites are MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish Natural and L'Oreal's True Match Super Blendable Powder. If you have oily skin, definitely check out Rimmel London's Stay Matte Pressed Powder, which comes colored or transparent.

A DO-IT-ALL EYESHADOW PALETTE

One of the best things I've ever purchased is an eyeshadow palette. Since there are several different colors in a palette, you can get so many different looks from the same set. They're also incredible for traveling and usually fit into your carryon bag with ease. My all-time favorite is Urban Decay's Naked2 Palette. It has a great mix of light and smokey colors, so you can do a day look and then transition it into evening. Two other great sets are the Urban Decay Naked Basics (perfect if you like to keep your options a bit more minimal) and Stila's In The Light Palette (which seems to be discontinued, but here's something similar).

HIGH COVERAGE CONCEALER

Investing in a high quality concealer is something I highly suggest, since most days it's all you need. Despite what you may think, concealer actually has a few different uses - you can use it like normal to conceal spots and blemishes, or you can mix a little bit with your daily moisturizer for a hydrating BB cream. If I'm reading some heavy coverage, I always go with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, but for lighter days the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer works just fine.

VOLUMINIZING + CURLING MASCARA

One thing I never leave the house without is a thick layer of mascara. I can skip all of the other makeup for my eyes, but mascara is absolutely a must. Finding a good mascara that can do everything - lengthen, add volume, curl, separate - is a bit tricky, but after trying several (and I mean several) out, I've found that Benefit's They're Real Mascara, Charlotte Tilbury's Legendary Lashes, and L'Oreal's Miss Manga are all fantastic options for different price points.

TINTED BALM

I'm a huge fan of tinted balms because they're so versatile. Swipe some on your cheeks for a dewy hint of color, or layer some on your lips for a sheer, kissable pout. Pixi recently came out with these new Multibalms*, and they're super hydrating and come in a small assortment of wearable colors. If you'd like something a bit more high-end, I highly recommend Clinique's Chubby Stick collection (Amp'd Up Apple and Super Strawberry are two of my favorites).
