Marshmallow surpasses 10% in June Android distribution numbers

We’re getting into the month of June and Google has now released its Android distribution numbers for the month. There are a few interesting highlights, but the most notable is that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now in use on over 10% of Android devices. The exact number is 10.1%, putting it just across that special line and significantly up from 7.5% last month. That being said, Lollipop still takes the cake as the most popular version of Android at 35.4%, down ever so slightly from 35.6%.

KitKat fell to 31.6%, down from 32.5% in May. Jelly Bean also fell, down to 18.9% from 20.1% and Ice Cream Sandwich is at 1.9%, down slightly from 2% last month. Gingerbread now stands at 2% and Froyo is just barely clinging on with 0.1%.

While it’s taken some time, it’s good to see Marshmallow making significant growth. That being said, it’ll likely be several months before we see it overtake Lollipop as the most used version of Android. We’ll keep you updated monthly on the status, so continue to check back to see how it’s progressing.
