Blame it on The Race of Gentlemen, but every time we come back from the beach racing showdown we contemplate building a car of our own. Starting from scratch can be both complicated and expensive, making the purchase of an already-built car, in need of slight refurbishing, all the more attractive. This 1927 Ford Model T speedster, for sale on Hemmings.com, appears to be a good starting point, as it comes complete with a Frontenac overhead-valve head (originally distributed by the Chevrolet Brothers Manufacturing Company), a two-speed Ruxstel rear and a sleek speedster body from the Mercury Body Company. Once part of a California collection, the Ford’s years in storage mean it will need to be mechanically sorted before it’s driven, but that’s all part of the fun for vintage racers. From the seller’s description:
1927 Ford Model T Mercury bodied Speedster. Formerly the property of Tom Powels (famous Lincoln collector from Reseda, CA). Older restoration. Two speed Ruxstel rear end. Frontenac Overhead Valve Racing head. Disc Racing wheels (or will sell with proper 21″ 1927 T wire wheels). Fresh out of storage. Paint has issues.
