Google says goodbye to the $999 Chromebook Pixel

It looks like the Nexus 9 isn’t the only item that Google is getting rid of on the Google Store, as the company also nixed the $1000 Chromebook Pixel as well.

While the Chromebook Pixel might be gone now, there is a new Chromebook that’s (sort of) replacing it: the earlier announced Chromebook 13 from HP. As a quick rundown, it has a Intel Core M chip, 16GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a touchscreen, and the price starts out at $499.

We’re not sure yet if Google plans on replacing the $1000 Chromebook Pixel with another after Google I/O, or if this Pixel just wasn’t selling well. As it stands, you can no longer find it on the Google Store, meaning you cannot buy the base model anymore, though you might be lucky to find some on Amazon and eBay for a short time. However, you’ll still be able to go to the Google Store and buy the pricier $1299 model.

It’s really not a bad move, either. It featured an Intel Core i5 chip, 8GB of RAM, a 32GB solid-state drive, and came with a touchscreen. That said, the Chromebook 13 from HP is a step up at a lower price point, though some might be disappointed that it isn’t the Pixel brand.

Either way, it seems like Google is cleaning up house, and we’re hoping this means Google has some new technology lined up for Google I/O later this month!
