The real action in the 2016 Formula One Chinese Grand Prix is yet to start. However, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were at it again. According to numerous sources like UK’s Mirror, the latest spat between the two was over who was paying for dinner.
Recently, Felipe Massa of Williams posted a photo will all but four F1 drivers in it at a Chinese restaurant. Based on the story, it was where the incident of Hamilton and Rosberg took place.
When it was time to settle the bill for their dinner, Hamilton offered to take care of it. However, Rosberg went Dutch and suggested that all 18 drivers in the dinner table should split the bill evenly.
“It was a little bit silly really, ridiculous because someone said, ‘Let’s share the bill’, so 18 drivers shared a bill which is just insane,” Hamilton recalled with a smile. “We all got a receipt, 18 receipts, 18 credit cards, it was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I have never seen anything like that before,” he added.
When the champ was asked who’s idea was it to split the bill, he answered, “I am pretty sure it was Nico.”
Rosberg responded later with a joke, “From what I can remember, the hidden agreement usually is that the world champion pays.”
The report noted that the meals at The Kitchen Salvatore Cuomo where the group went only cost somewhere over £50 per head. That is definitely nothing compared to the £33 million annual salary of Hamilton or £12 million yearly of Rosberg. So, what was going on in their minds really beats us.
The manager of the restaurant Giovanni Wong commented later, “We got an email before-hand saying they would pay individually. It was a little bit complicated but no problem. They were very polite and not too noisy.”
