Just after Toyota launched the Passo model, Daihatsu joined the fray by debuting the Boon supermini model for the Japanese domestic market. Surely, the next generation Perodua Myvi could take hints from this new Daihatsu Boon.
Also known as the Sirion in some markets in the world, the Boon shares many similarities with the Passo. Offered in two variants, the entry level X and the modern looking Cliq which looks identical to the Moda variant offered by Toyota.
It also shares the similar powertrain, lies underneath is a 1.0-litre 1KR-FE engine mated with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Needless to say, the Passo’s stunning fuel consumption of 28.0 km/L is also achievable in the Boon.
Daihatsu’s Smart Assist II driver assistance system is also included, meaning modern safety capabilities such as collision warning system for vehicles and pedestrians, brake assist function, and lane departure warning are available.
Pricing wise is more or less the same with the Passo, with the Boon starting at 1,150,200 yen (approx RM41,350.00 in today’s rates) to 1,853,280 yen (approx RM65,800.00).
Based on the previous two generations, Perodua’s interpretation of the Passo and Boon models will take off a year after its Japanese counterparts launched their models. Hence, a new Myvi should certainly coming to Malaysia in 2017.
