Crafting, plenty of junk, and pets come to ‘Fallout Shelter’

Fallout Shelter was brought to Android devices last summer, and Bethesda’s first mobile game easily became one of the best within weeks and months after launching. The game was named one of Google Play’s Best of 2015 and over ten million people have installed it to-date. As Bethesda continues pushing out fresh content, Fallout Shelter just keeps getting better over time.

Today’s Fallout Shelter update, version 1.4, adds a number of new items and features.

Here’s the full changelog:

  • Turn worthless junk into useful items! Introducing… crafting!
  • New Rooms! Build the new Weapon and Armor crafting rooms and use them to create your own items in game!
  • Lunchboxes now contain a bonus 5th card: Junk! Trust us – it’s more useful than it sounds. Lucky wasteland explorers may also find junk on their adventures.
  • Take the Overseer role to the next level. Build the new Barbershop and customize the look of any Dweller.
  • Keep up with the latest fashions! Find new Outfits and Weapons straight from Fallout 4 in lunchboxes, or craft them yourself!
  • Because four-legged companions bring overwhelming happiness, we’ve added new Dogs and Cats, and are introducing… Parrots! Plus, new Pet bonuses!
  • Time of day is now properly reflected. Because authentic Vault simulation is our #1 goal!

The introduction of junk to Fallout Shelter aligns it closer with Fallout 4, the franchise’s most recent flagship game. Junk in the game can be crafted to create weapons and armor that you wouldn’t normally be picking up.

Bethesda’s Montreal office, which only opened in December 2015, is a sign that the company will be releasing more mobile games in the future. Although new properties could be born on mobile devices, it’s likely Bethesda brings many of its most popular franchises to phones and tablets. Bethesda is the developer behind FalloutThe Elder Scrolls, and other popular franchises that have been mainstays on traditional gaming platforms for years.
