Pros: Competitive pricing; user-friendly audio and climate controls; comfortable ride, especially in highway cruising
Cons: Higher noise levels than many class competitors; 3rd-row seating is sized for kids; some unexceptional interior materials
CG Says: Nissan’s midsize crossover SUV sees a number of minor updates for 2015. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) gets a “D-Step Shift” programming update that mimics the shifting of a conventional automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive models get hill descent control, and the upscale SL and Platinum models get Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The Hybrid model is discontinued, at least temporarily. The Pathfinder offers smooth power, excellent cargo flexibility, and lots of features at reasonable-for-the-class prices. Its main letdowns are a somewhat raucous engine and real-world fuel economy that disappoints versus its excellent EPA estimates.
