The Mitsubishi Lancer fills a unique niche as one of the only compact sedans to offer all-wheel drive. In fact, there’s only one other competitor that does: the Subaru Impreza. For lots of Midwestern drivers, that’s a huge recommendation in favor of both cars. But, having reached that point, how do you decide whether to buy a Lancer or an Impreza? Let’s take a look at the differences between the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer vs Subaru Impreza.

First of all, the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer offers a more powerful engine than the 2016 Subaru Impreza does. Yeah, the Lancer Ralliart isn’t around anymore, and it’s a shame we can’t do that comparison against the newest Subaru WRX. But if, for some stupid reason, you wanted to race in a regular Lancer against an Impreza, the Lancer would win. We’re just saying.

Both cars offer the kinds of standard features you’d expect from any new car, like rearview cameras, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and touchscreen audio systems. The Lancer 2.4L uses a CVT transmission, although you can also get versions of the Lancer with a manual; the Subaru Impreza also comes in manual or CVT varieties. And, like we said before, these are the only two cars in their class to come with all-wheel drive. The Lancer’s driving dynamics are crisp and direct, definitely more fun than most of the competition.
The final perk of buying a 2016 Lancer? Mitsubishi’s warranty program, which, as always, offers more comprehensive protection for longer than any other brand. It’s right there on the chart. That’s Mitsubishi Confidence.
