Hemmings Find of the Day – 1955 Ford Thunderbird

For the 1960s, maybe even the 1970s, we suppose the modifications made to this 1955 Ford Thunderbird for sale on Hemmings.com would have fallen under the category of modernization: 289, four-speed, 12-volt electrics, and apparently little else other than a repaint. Sure, it could probably be put back to original fairly easily, but as it sits now, it runs and drives and looks like it could be a fun everyday car that won’t generate heart attacks every time it suffers a door ding. From the seller’s description:

This car runs and drives well. The body is in good condition and has no rust or dents. Vehicle was last plated in 1980. Originally a red car, this vehicle was converted to 289/ 4-speed sometime prior to 1980 and repainted white. There is no evidence of rust or blistering in the paint after 35 years of inactivity. I do know that the lower rocker boxes were replaced at some point. The electrical system was also upgraded to 12-volt with an alternator. Just installed, A new fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter and all of the fuel hoses were replaced. A new water pump has been installed. All of the brakes have been serviced, including all 4 wheel cylinders and adjuster maintenance. The vehicle has a hardtop with the opera windows and the power seat option. It also has 3 of the original hubcaps. The car needs the wheels and tires upgraded and a new battery.
