If you’re looking for some great deals on things for your trunk, windshield or glovebox, why not try out your neighbourhood dollar store?
Recently, I stopped by two stores in North Bay, Ontario, a Dollarama and a Dollar Tree. Of course, Dollarama has higher price points than does its rival – up to $3.00 for some items (though it plans to start selling stuff for as much as $4.00). Dollar Tree, meanwhile, sells items priced at no more than $1.25, and you’d be surprised at what you can get for a mere buck twenty-five! While Dollarama is the best known dollar-store chain in Canada, I found Dollar Tree to be quite impressive, and I was able to locate some interesting products at both stores that are located about 30 minutes north of the small rural township I currently live in.
So what follows are seven things you can buy at your local dollar store. The four products I bought from Dollarama cost $3.00 each, and the three things I bought from Dollar Tree cost $1.25 each. This list is by no means comprehensive as there are loads of things you might be interested in buying for yourself or maybe for another motorist you know. With all that said, here goes…
1. Car Trunk Organizer: The car truck organizer at Dollarama is suitable for road trips, picnic outings and just about anything else you can think of. It includes three organization sections, two outer side pickets and two small front pockets, and it is rated to hold as much as 33 pounds. Moreover, the car trunk organizer is collapsible, which means it won’t take up a whole lot of space when you don’t need it.
2. Telescoping Shovel: This is the perfect piece of equipment to store in your car truck this time of year. If you’ve ever gotten stuck during the winter driving season, you’ll know that a compact shovel is something like can be extremely useful. Available at Dollarama, the telescoping shovel expands up to two feet in length.
3. Digital Accessory Mount: In this day and age of distracted driving laws, you can’t afford to be fiddling with your mobile devices while driving. Whether for your cellular phone, digital music player, GPS device or PDA device, the digital accessory mount will securely hold your mobile devices so that you can keep your eyes on the road. You can find it at a Dollarama near you.
4. 12V Car Socket Flashlight: Who knows when something like this might come in handy? Available at Dollarama, this car socket flashlight features a 16-foot cord, and it’s compact enough to easily fit in your glove box. So if you need light, this flashlight will do the job.
5. Snow Brush with Scraper: Available at Dollar Tree, this piece of equipment will come in useful during the winter season. And it’s hard to beat the price for such versatility.
6. Drain Pan: This first time I saw this product in Dollar Tree, I thought I was looking at a bed pan. But a bed pan it certainly is not. If you do your own oil changes, then something like this will come in handy.
7. Tire Shine: Available at Dollar Tree, this product is perfect for getting your tires looking spanking new. The manufacturer also says that it provides long-lasting results.
Again, the products mentioned above represent just a sampling of the sorts of things you can find at a dollar store these days. So if you’re looking to buy some useful products at prices that won’t burn a hole in your wallet, then some dollar store shopping might be in order.
