The rear-wheel drive Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2 coupe has been unveiled just ahead of the 2015 Los Angeles auto show.
Mounted mid-ships behind the passenger cell is the company’s naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine. For the LP580-2, Lamborghini has tuned the engine to deliver 426kW of power and 540Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission transmission.
According to Lamborghini, 405Nm of the engine’s torque is available from 1000rpm. The LP580-2 cedes 23kW of power and 20Nm of torque to its four-wheel drive LP610-4 sibling, but weighs 33 kilograms less with dry weight of 1389kg.
Compared to the LP610-4, the RWD coupe takes longer to complete the 0-100km/h and 0-200km/h standards, requiring 3.4 and 10.1 seconds, respectively, to the LP610-4’s 3.2 and 9.9. Top speed is said to be 320km/h, or 5km/h less than the LP610-4.
Rather than focussing on producing the best performance figures it can, Lamborghini claims that the Huracan LP580-2 has been engineered for “maximum driving fun”.
Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s CEO, sas that the LP580-2 “fits perfectly into our Huracan family, appealing to those wanting an even more intense driving experience, or who currently drive other rear-wheel- drive marques and aspire to driving a Lamborghini”.
The LP580-2 is said to 40:60 front-to-rear weight distribution, which helps to reduce front axle inertia. The rear-wheel drive Huracan has been fitted with a new steering setup, modified suspension settings, reworked stability and traction control systems, and a new power management module.
The Huracan LP580-2 rides on 19-inch alloy wheels fitted to specially developed Pirelli P-Zero tyres, measuring 245/35 up front and 305/35 at the rear. Stopping power comes courtesy of steel brakes with aluminium callipers, while magneto rheological suspension is an optional extra.
Not that too many potential owners will care, but the LP580-2’s engine is, like the recently unveiled 2016 Huracan LP610-4, able to shut down one bank of cylinders, reducing combined cycle fuel consumption to 11.9L/100km.
