At the 13th China Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition also known as Auto Guangzhou, the Dongfeng Yueda Kia (DYK) joint venture returned with an impressive exhibition of 25 Kia vehicles. This year, the event of note was the reveal of the new Sportage, tailored exclusively for the Chinese market.
The new generation Sportage, with its recent North American debut, has had a busy week in the spotlight. For Chinese consumers, the compact CUV is back with a new name – the KX5– along with refined interior and exterior features and enhanced performance. The new KX5, available with a 1.6 turbo GDi and 2.0 GDi engine and a vast array of premium amenities, is scheduled to go into production early next year.
Besides the KX5, DYK also presented other popular models from its K series line up such as the K9 (Quoris, K900), K7 (Cadenza), K5 (Optima) and K5 HEV (Optima Hybrid). The Soul EV, Sedona (Grand Carnival), and Sorento were also on display for the crowds.
Kia also exhibited its collection of lifestyle accessories in the ‘Brand Collection Zone’ and showcased its advances in green technology in the ‘EcoDynamics Zone’.
The previous generation Sportage became a quick bestseller, and Kia has high expectations that the enhanced KX5, with its innovative style and urban design, will continue to be a competitive model in the compact CUV segment. By bringing significant enhancements in both design and performance of its vehicles, we expect to showcase our talents as an automobile manufacturer and boost brand awareness in the rapidly growing Chinese market.
