The all-new 2016 BMW M2 coupe has been previewed on track this week, drifting its way through a short clip released today.
Filmed at the BMW Performance Centre in the US, the six-second video (bottom of article) sees the M2 smoking its way along a section of track – just as it’s doing in the new hero car’s recent promo pics.
This latest video follows the new M2’s official unveiling last month, bringing an end to years of speculation that BMW would eventually launch a successor to its limited-edition 1 Series M Coupe.
For those needing a refresher, the M2 is powered by a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six, churning out 272kW and 465Nm, while an overboost function lifts torque to 500Nm for short bursts.
With a six-speed manual and a 1495kg kerb weight rounding out its key technical factoids, the M2 promises a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds. Switch to the seven-speed dual-clutch auto and BMW claims a 4.3-second run.
The M2 is expected to hit Australia in the first half next year, with a price somewhere in the vicinity of $100,000.
