The 2016 Volvo V40 Cross Country has arrived in Australia with new connectivity features and slightly higher prices.
The price of both Volvo V40 Cross Country variants increases by $1230 for the 2016 model year, with the D4 Luxury now $49,220 and the T5 Luxury $54,220 (both plus on-road costs).
Accounting for the increase, the 2016 V40 Cross Country’s upgraded infotainment system now features internet connectivity, in-car web apps, and connected service booking.
Specification is otherwise similar to before, with highlights including LED daytime running lights, 18-inch black alloy wheels, roof rails, reverse-view camera and rear parking sensors, City Safety autonomous braking system, adaptive digital instrument cluster display, climate control, electric front seats, leather upholstery, and a 7.0-inch central screen with Sensus Navigation infotainment system and eight-speaker audio system.
The price of many options has also increased for 2016, though positively Volvo has cut the price of two of the most popular add-ons: metallic paint (now $1150, down $600), and the Driver Support Pack (now $4000, down $1000).
Both variants remain the same under the bonnet. The V40 Cross Country D4 Luxury variant retains its twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 140kW at 4250rpm and 400Nm between 1750-2500rpm. As before, the front-drive entry model features the eight-speed auto, sprints from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds, and consumes 4.5L/100km combined.
The updated V40 Cross Country T5 Luxury likewise continues with Volvo’s new-generation 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The powerplant produces 180kW at 5500rpm and 350Nm between 1500-4800rpm, propels the car from 0-100km/h in 6.1sec and uses 6.9L/100km on the combined cycle.
The engine drives all four wheels via the brand’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
The V40 Cross Country has recently been joined in local showrooms by the larger V60 Cross Country wagon, as well as the updated-for-2016 Volvo V40 hatch.
