Well that didn’t take long. Just a week after we first broke the news that Ducati is introducing a new 959 Panigale, the new model has now been spotted undergoing testing (i.e. posing for spy photographers).
The motorcycle depicted appears to be an amalgam of Ducati’s 1299 and 899 models. The fairing, mirrors and exhaust appear identical to the larger Panigale (with the model number covered up with masking tape) while the ten-spoke wheels, Brembo monobloc brakes and aluminum double-sided swingarm are from the 899. The suspension also appears to be the same as the 899’s chassis, with a Showa fork and Sachs rear shock.
From certification documents released by the California Air Resources Board, we know the 959 Panigale will have a 955cc engine. A combination of the 899’s 100mm bore and the 1299’s 60.8mm stroke would account for the new displacement, though of course, we won’t know for sure until Ducati releases that information.
We expect the new 959 Panigale to be one of the nine new models Ducati promised will debut next month at EICMA, alongside three 937cc Hyperstrada models and a revamped Diavel. Keep checking with Motorcycle.com for more information on these and other new 2016 models.
