It wasn’t long after launching Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine that the staff decided to begin naming a Muscle Machine of the Year as an annual event. The first time out, the staff did the choosing, but when it came time to make considerations for the top car the following year, the decision was made to leave it up to the readership. So, starting in 2006, the magazine staff has handled the initial round of eliminations, selecting 13 cars from the features that had appeared in that year’s issues to form a ballot that could be presented to readers. From there, the readers were prompted to cast their votes, either via email or snail-mail, to help pick the best of the best.
It’s been that way ever since, though we’ve been using an online voting program as a means of keeping the tally for a number of years now. Taking part is simple: Go to Hemmings.com/MMOY and you’ll find the candidates—all you have to do is select one and click the appropriate box to cast your vote. We’ve also enhanced the version of the ballot that appears on mobile devices, to make viewing and voting easier for those on the move. Given that the polls will be open for a relatively brief time this year, we encourage you to vote early; voting often, however, should be curtailed by the electronic system monitoring the process—you only get one vote.
The above link to the voting page also has the feature that ran in the November issue of Muscle Machines, detailing the program. The winner will be presented in the December issue.
