RECALL: 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1M Certain versions of Cycle World’s Best Open-Class Streetbike of 2015 are subject to an NHTSA recall.

2015 Yamaha YZF-R1M track action NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V221000 POTENTIAL NUMBER OF UNITS AFFECTED: 350 RECALL SUBJECT: Shock Absorber Damping Rod Nut may Loosen/Detach SUMMARY: Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain model year 2015 YZF-R1M motorcycles manufactured January 19, 2015, to March 23, 2015. The affected motorcycles may have been built with an improperly manufactured rear shock absorber. The nut on the damper rod for these shock absorbers may loosen, resulting in a loss of damping and the possible disassembling of the shock. CONSEQUENCE: If the piston rod nut loosens, shock absorber performance would be affected, possibly causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the motorcycles and replace any affected rear shock absorbers, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in May 2015. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha’s number for this recall is 990095. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
