Trying to decide exactly what trim level this 1979 Chrysler LeBaron for sale on Hemmings.com is. All three – base, Salon, and Medallion – could be had on coupes, and even the base model was fairly well equipped with power brakes, power steering, and opera lamps. The Medallions apparently had shag carpeting from the factory, so it’s unfortunate we can’t see more of the interior here. Whatever the trim level, it looks to be a solid car in need of some TLC. From the seller’s description:
My car is designated by Chrysler as Special Sunroof Boattail Coupe for good reason. It has most of the options Chrysler put into these cars. Generous power sunroof with manual crank provided and installed exclusively for Chrysler by the still in business repair parts available American Sunroof Corp. black with red pinstripes to complement the red velour interior opera lights fender mount turn signal indicator lamps remote driver side mirror auto lock doors chrome bumpers nerf strip delete square rear quarter glass no pad rear vinyl roof showing the outline of the standard triangle rear quarter glass frame cornering lights delete… Interior red with fold flat velour split bench seat powered on the drivers side a/c amfm radio five presets power windows auto lock doors map light cruise control. Drivetrain 318 lean burn two barrel A-904 7 1/4 diff non posi. I enjoyed fifty thousand miles of trouble free comfortable cruising in this forgotten and historic and rare classic. Body is extremely straight paint faded on the hood small areas of rust including lower front of driver side fender scaling and pinholes in vertical part of deck lid pinholes in left rear fender lip underbody good rust on flat sheet metal above rear axle. This car is ninety five percent plus original including paint.
I believe I am its third owner. The first owner was from New Jersey as evidenced by the dealer sticker on the trunk lid the second from Long Island NY where I my shipped my purchase from down to here in Florida. My Lebaron has sat collecting dust in my garage for five years. I drove her into my garage five years ago and start her up once and a while but I don’t drive her anymore. She wants to be on the road again but I have no time for her and no funds needed. So who will be the fourth owner of this cruiser? Btw all circa eighties police optioned Dodge Diplomat parts bolt right into my car even a big block fits Chrysler must have had high hopes back then and there was a company that produced a coil over subframe bolt in front suspension to replace my cars stronger built than subsequent years torsion setup… Cruiser or sleeper? I will leave this decision up to the fourth owner. The boxes full of mostly nos parts shown will be stuffed into the trunk and included. Or best cash offer. Luck and enjoyment to the one who shakes my hand sealing the deal for this priceless example of automotive history. The rusty and torn build sheet is still stuck in the back seat.
