200 HP Fiat on the cards…

“If the 500X becomes the addition to the Abarth line-up, it will be everything but a family version. Any new version of an Abarth car should deliver some sort of a performance enhancement, otherwise it is useless.”

So says Fiat Chrysler Automobiles COO Alfredo Altavilla, when asked if the Fiat brand will be creating a new performance model Fiat. Fans of the 50OX have been speculating for some time now as to what a performance Fiat would look like and sound like, with most agreeing that it would probably sport adding flares and bulges, a lowered ride height, a spoiler, and more aggressive front and rear styled fascias on the outside and sport seats and special trim on the inside. When it comes to power, the 500X Abarth could come in an all-wheel drive variation, with front and rear options also available. It will most likely have a variation on the current 1.75-litre turbo-four Alfa Romeo 4C engine, and will offer 200 horsepower and a lower ride height, more aggressive styling and Abarth-specific trim details, including the requisite scorpion badges, as well as alloy wheels.

The result? Zero to sixty in only seven seconds and a top speed of one hundered and fifty five miles per hour. With the current 500X being described by the New York Times as “tthe most masculine Fiat model sold …in a generation, sidestepping the…cuteness issue by… butching it up a bit. The proportions are stout…with much of the smaller 500’s whimsy removed on account of elongated oval headlamps and fog lights, and aggressive skid-plate-like elements in the bumper and lower air intakes.” Add all this to an “Abarthified” model, and we can’t even begin to imagine the results!
