Hemmings Sunday Cinema – Sixties SCCA at Road America, off-roading CHiPs, Dateline Diamonds

There’s hardly a driver or car mentioned – even in passing – in this video report of the 1964 SCCA Sports Car Championship series race at Road America that isn’t today considered a legend. There’s Carroll Shelby and his Cobras, of course, but also Walt Hansgen in a Ferrari, Jim Hall in his Chaparrals, and plenty more to spot. Even with that year’s championship wrapped up before the green flag dropped, there’s plenty of racing action here (part 2, part 3).

* What led Ponch and Jon to the Mojave to an off-road race? Who knows and who cares – we got four and a half minutes of random off-road driving with Jeeps, buggies, motorcycles, Baja Bugs, and more with little to no dialog and just the sounds of engines and suspensions working over the desert terrain. * Finally, as we continue to descend into foreign B-movie car chase territory, let’s take a look at the chase scene from the 1966 British film “Dateline Diamonds,” which has something to do with… oh, never mind, just watch the chase.
