Hemmings Find of the Day – 1924 Delahaye

The Packard engine swap in this 1924 Delahaye for sale on Hemmings.com is rather unexpected, but not all that out of line, we’d argue. It’s large, powerful, somewhat of the era, and about as stately as the car it’s going into. Maximum performance almost seems beside the point, given that the car’s not likely to ever race at or near 10/10ths again, but still appears ready for bouts of spirited driving. From the seller’s description:

only known example. Drives and handles superbly, comfortable on the highway or hillclimb. The car is equipped with a modified 1940 Packard 356, 200BHP engine and modern 5 speed gearbox, being the only major modern component. Starts easily and runs well. Owned for the past 26 years and purchased in a partially restored state. Seats are comfortable upholstered in natural tan leather, steering wheel is hand bound and instruments all function well. The car is generally period correct and in good order and has excellent period elements showing nice patina. A hidden away heather has been installed for cool weather comfort. Steering is very light and positive and the large 4 wheel, brakes are superb.
