Kia GT Concept Production Plans
The 2015 Kia vehicle lineup in the United States is hardy and by no means in short supply when it comes to vehicle options. A wide variety of cars and SUVs are available, including crossovers, coupes, sedans, hatchbacks, and seven-seaters. Despite the versatility of its vehicle lineup, there isn’t a large, sporty car available in the United States. Recent auto shows have brought forth new information and we therefore would like to tell you a little more about the Kia GT concept production plans that may be unfurling in the next couple of years.
For quite some time now, Kia has been working on the production of a GT model, but this was the first time that the production model was officially unveiled. Trace the creation of the Kia GT back to 2011 when it first debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show; it showed off the concept of a fastback, four-door coupe. Larger than the Optima, the Kia GT would be powered by a 3.3L turbocharged V6 capable of producing 389 horsepower.
Just to compare to the ever-popular Kia Optima, which is front-wheel drive, unlike the rear-wheel GT concept, it comes standard with a 2.4L 4-cylinder capable of 192 horsepower and provides the option of upgrading to a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder that fires up 274 hp.
According to previous commentary, the large, sporty Kia GT sedan was seriously being considered for production, but as of last year, it supposedly was finally given the a-ok to get going. As appealing as coupes may appear, the general tendency is to opt for a sedan because of their convenience, and the four-door Kia GT overall is going to be a more practical choice, should it make its way to production.
Kia has not decided whether to push the GT sedan forward into production, but it will be giving an official statement in the near future.
