Every now and then, Volkswagen ads of the 1960s actually made for some pretty good carspotting. Chalk it up to the fact that VW wasn’t ashamed to put competitors’ cars in their ads – in fact, they seemed to go out of their way to do so in order to show the world how different its products were. We lifted today’s carspotting image from a VW Type 2 ad that appeared in the April 10, 1964, edition of Life magazine, according to SenseiAlan on Flickr, and while we don’t know exactly where it was taken, at least the date gives us a good end bracket for identifying the cars.
