2015 Indian Scout Recalled for Rear Brake Issue

Polaris is recalling the 2015 Indian Scout because of a problem with its rear master cylinder. The recall campaign affects 806 motorcycles produced from May 12, 2014 to Feb. 13, 2015.

According to information released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the piston retaining ring in the rear brake master cylinder may not fully seat into the machined grove of the cylinder bore. This may result in the master cylinder moving out of the master cylinder bore, causing a loss of fluid pressure to the rear brakes. In such a condition, the rear brakes would gradually feel softer while brake pedal travel would gradually increase.

The problem is believed to be caused by a machining or assembly error by the component supplier Zhejiang Jingke Auto Parts Co., resulting in the piston retaining groove being in the wrong location.

Indian first received a warranty claim related to this problem on Jan. 15, with a second claim coming in on Feb. 18. Indian then initiated an investigation and identified the source of the problem. Indian believes that only 2%-4% of Scouts are affected.

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the rear brake master cylinder on affected Scouts at no charge. Owners who have already paid for work done to correct this problem will be reimbursed.
