Good marks for 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage in crash tests

2015 Mitsubishi Mirage crash test ratings

Don’t let it’s small size fool you. The 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage may be a minicar, but it’s packed with premium safety features just like the big guys. In fact the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage recently earned good crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a nonprofit, independent organization dedicated to improving the safety of roadways in the U.S.

The IIHS works to reduce deaths and damage to property each year from automobiles by conducting scientific tests of new vehicles and the safety equipment inside to help manufacturers improve safety and save lives. The IIHS conducts a series of crash tests on each vehicle and rates how the vehicle’s safety features and structure worked to prevent injury. The performance in a crash test is rated on a scale of good (the best), acceptable, marginal and poor.

In moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints and seats tests the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage earned a “good” rating. The small overlap front test rates how a vehicle reacts when it hits a narrow object, like a tree, off-center. Only on the small overlap front test did the Mirage earn a “poor” rating.

So how did the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage compare to the competition? The 2015 Honda Fit and 2015 Chevy Spark were the only vehicles of the category tested that earned an “acceptable” rating on the small overlap test, but otherwise has comparable results to the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage.

Minicars may not have the size of sedans or SUVs but the crash tests demonstrate these small vehicles can still be very safe. It also shows that the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage is the complete package: fuel-efficient, safe and reliable. In fact the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine can deliver up to 37 city mpg and 44 highway mpg.
