Over the years we’ve written about various Audi models, but the one model that seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle this year is the tried-and-true Audi A4. In celebration of its 20th anniversary, I thought it fitting to highlight the “most successful Audi of all time.” I tried to get into one this year, but if I do recall correctly, I was told that it wasn’t in the press fleet. I’m sure the guys over at Audi headquarters are thinking, “Meh, the A4 sells so well on its own. We don’t need anyone to review it.”
As a matter of fact, so far this year the award-winning A4 is currently the second highest selling model for the four-ring brand at 28,097 units sold. Sales are actually slightly down from last year, and that’s probably because it’s been competing with the Q5, which is currently in first place as the most popular model year-to-date. So what makes the Audi A4 such a popular car?
It’s affordable - For those who want an affordable, entry-level luxury vehicle, then this is the car for you. The A4 sedan with the Premium package and front-wheel drive starts at $35,500. You could even find a used A4 for a decent price. AudiAutoDealers.com has a pretty good list of used Audi A4's for sale. Of course, the A3 sedan has entered the picture, which is slightly cheaper, but it doesn’t have the space that the A4 has. That brings us to our next point…
It’s roomy - 4 adults can sit comfortably and road-tripping with the family is perfect. The ConsumerGuide even ranked the A4 as one of the best luxury cars for tall people in the Compact Cars category, giving it a rating of 7 out of 10.
It’s economical - The A4 is relatively fuel efficient, offering 24 city mpg, 32 highway mpg, and 27 combined mpg. We’re all crossing our fingers that a TDI version comes to the U.S. soon. It’s only a matter of time, right?
Beautiful design - You simply can’t argue with understated luxury. The posh, yet classic design of the A4 isn’t pretentious, and the quality speaks for itself. Oh, and I would be remissed if I didn’t mention all the wonderful technological advances just waiting to be enjoyed when you get behind the wheel of this beauty including adaptive cruise control, side assist, and Audi parking system.
