In the decades since, the Miata has become both the world’s most popular two-seat sports car and the most raced car in the world, both a testament to the Miata’s impressive handling and proletarian price point. To many fans, the first generation cars (NA, in Miata-speak) are the purest, thanks to their light weight, simplicity and utter absence of luxury. Finding a clean, low-mileage NA is becoming more difficult with each passing year, which is why this 272-mile 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata, for sale on Hemmings.com, caught our eye. Reportedly purchased for the original owner’s wife, who never learned to drive a manual transmission, the car sat largely unused for over two decades, which accounts for its time capsule appearance. The seller is including an optional factory hardtop, and will even throw in the flat-spotted original tires, which have since been replaced. From the seller’s description:
1990 Mazda Miata/MX5: This may be the newest, lowest milage miata out there, I don’t know, but at 272 actual miles it has to be close. I met the man who bought it for his wife, but she never learned how to drive a standard transmission, so it rested, covered, in a garage, for 23 years.
It’s recently been professionally detailed, ALL fluids have been changed, and new tires and rubber installed where needed. (the original tires were flat-spotted from age, but will be included if desired). It runs and drives perfectly, it’s beautiful inside and out, and even smells faintly new.
