Though I’m sure many of us in the old car hobby are in it because we like tinkering with the cars, it’s worth keeping in mind that some just like having an old car to drive, something distinctive and decidedly nothing like what they can find on new car lots, something like this 1958 Ford Custom 300 Ranch Wagon for sale on Hemmings.com, a restored two-door three-on-the-tree V-8 car that appears to need nothing to enjoy right away other than a full tank of gas. From the seller’s description:
Due to changing life circumstances I have decided to sell my absolutely beautiful 1958 Ford Ranch Wagon. This wagon was a lifelong California black plate car which I brought to Tennessee. A full restoration was done in California in 2011 before the car was shipped to me in Tennessee. I then added new Coker radials for driving ease and continued to improve the interior to show quality. It starts easily with the manual choke and drives and runs well. I have driven it to shows in Atlanta and around the state with no problem. It gets attention whereever it goes and almost always wins a trophy. Last fall it won an AACA National 1st prize or “junior”..
This car runs beautifully with its 292 V8 2 brrl which also matches well with the original manual 3 speed on the column transmission. It also has Power Steering. The chrome and trim are show quality and even the “Town and Country” AM radio and clock are working. All the original gauges work correctly, no need for an external temp gauge and you can trust the gas gauge. The speedometer and odometer also work, but please be aware the actual mileage is unknown. Please note this car does have overdrive but it appears to have a servo problem so I have never used or it or needed it. The car operates at all speeds just fine without its use.
