Ford Mustang turned into 540kW Rocket by Galpin Auto Sports

Californian Ford tuner Galpin Auto Sports and leading automotive designer Henrik Fisker have joined forced to create what they have labelled “the ultimate American muscle car” – a carbonfibre-bodied super-Mustang called the Rocket.

The Galpin Rocket’s design takes inspiration from specialty pony cars of the 1960s and 1970s, including the 1968 Shelby GT500. An imposing hexagonal grille, long bonnet with twin intakes, muscular rear haunches and integrated spoiler are not-too-subtle hints at the heavily modified Mustang’s performance credentials.

Powering the Rocket is a supercharged 540kW V8 engine that, combined with its lightweight carbonfibre body, is said to make it one of the fastest road-legal Mustangs ever made.

The Rocket’s adjustable independent front and rear suspension, Pirelli P-Zero performance tyres wrapped around 21-inch ADV.1 wheels, and high-performance 15-inch Brembo Grand Turismo brakes have been designed for both road and track use.

The Rocket will indeed hit the tarmac, too, with Galpin confirming the show car is just the first of a low-volume series. Rocket production will begin next month, with the first deliveries beginning early next year through Galpin Ford in North Hills, California, and select dealers across the US and around the world.

It’s set to be priced just north of US$100,000 ($116,000) – more than four times the base price of the Mustang in the US. Galpin Auto Sports hopes to produce up to 100 Rockets per year.
