BMW i3 wins 2015 Green Car of the Year award

BMW i3 takes a huge win home today at the 2014 LA Auto Show. The first electric vehicle coming out of Munich has won the 2015 Green Car of the Year award.

The other finalists this year were the CNG-powered Chevy Impala Bi-Fuel, the Audi A3 TDI, the Honda Fit and the VW Golf.

Green Car Journal has handed out the award last year to Honda Accord Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid. The Chevrolet Volt won in 2011.

The base price of the 2014 BMW i3 starts at $41,350 and those looking for the i3 REx (Range Extender) will have to shell out $45,200. Destination and Handling fee is set at $925.

BMW is currently selling between 1000-1200 units in the U.S. every month and with more infrastructure put in place in 2015, the sales are expected to rise.
