In case you’ve missed any of our auction recaps over the past few years, it’s safe to say that the market for collector cars is booming, and most major automotive auction firms are enjoying record sales. Looking to capitalize on this success, Barrett-Jackson is taking this one step further with the opening of a 22,500 square foot retail facility in its home town of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Slated for a grand opening on November 14 and 15, the Barrett-Jackson Collection Showroom, located in Old Town Scottsdale, will feature an alternating selection of “premium vehicles which embody the Barrett Jackson brand,” according to the company’s press release. Showroom division manager Muffy Bennett confirmed that this range will include everything from classic cars through muscle cars, street rods, pro touring cars and even the occasional exotic, roughly equivalent to what one would expect to see at a Barrett-Jackson auction.
To create a “one-stop shopping” experience for consumers, the showroom will also sell a line of restoration products, collector car insurance and branded merchandise, and an onsite service department will offer everything from maintenance and repair (by ASE-certified mechanics) through light reconditioning work.
Those looking to sell a car to Barrett-Jackson can also do so at the new facility, and consignments will be accepted as well. Bennett advises that there’s room on the showroom floor for as many as 30 vehicles, though that quantity would be a tight fit and the actual number on display at any given time will likely be lower. Quick turnover, she says, will be the key to success, so models not drawing sufficient interest will quickly be replaced by more marketable offerings. Though the showroom will operate separately from the auction side of the business, customers will still be coached on which alternative is likely to produce the best result for their individual vehicle.
Of the decision to open a physical location, Barrett-Jackson president Steve Davis said, “Expanding into this market is a great way to promote our collection, and it also provides our fans with more exposure to Barrett-Jackson. We cannot wait to watch this grow and encourage the passion we all share for the collector car hobby.”
