Photographer Thomas J. Noel had an eye for all that Denver offered, from landmark architecture down to the low-rent flats and whiskey dives. His shots of the latter and of similar working-class establishments, as found on the Denver Public Library’s Digital Collections, provide a colorful look not only at where blue-collar folks went to drown their sorrows, but also – thanks to their ground-level (as opposed to skyscraper) architecture – what they drove at the time. For today’s carspotting post, we selected a handful of said photos from the Seventies, starting with Dan’s Corner Tavern, above, at 5302 Brighton Boulevard, then moving on to the Aspen Motel at 2167 South Santa Fe Drive, the Shanty Bar at 151 South Broadway, the Big Chief Bottling Company in the 1500 block of Platte Street, and the Hangar Bar at 8001 East Colfax.
