All-New Honda HR-V Crossover Makes Its North American Photo Debut

2014 L.A. Auto Show full coverage

We first caught sight of Honda’s bulbous new utelet in April, and now it’s official: This is how the Honda Fit–based HR-V will look when it hits North American showrooms. Pucker up, little guy!

The little HR-V, which will be built for the North American market alongside the Fit at Honda’s Celaya, Mexico, factory, combines Honda’s new black-grille-flanked-by-trapezoidal-headlights front-end design language with a side profile and hatch area that’s somewhat reminiscent of the Hyundai Tucson. The HR-V will boast the same flat-folding second-row Magic Seat, spacious packaging, and tidy exterior dimensions as the Fit.

We don’t know for certain which motor will power the tiny truckster when it hits the North American market as a 2016 model, but we figure a more powerful four-cylinder than the Fit’s 130-hp engine will find its way underhood. Either way, given the Fit bones and utter lack of off-road pretensions, we’re betting it will adhere to a philosophy of thrifty toting.
