Jackie Chan Wraps 'The Shadow's Edge,' Teams With K-Pop Star Jun for Macau-Set Heist Thriller

(Variety) Action icon Jackie Chan has completed principal photography on "The Shadow's Edge," a high-stakes thriller that marks his second collaboration with Chinese helmer Larry Yang. The duo previously struck gold with "Ride On," which dominated Asian box offices in 2023, becoming Japan's highest-grossing Chinese import and landing among Malaysia's top three Chinese releases of the year.

Set against the neon-lit backdrop of Macau, the film stars Chan as a veteran surveillance expert pulled out of retirement by the local police force. He's tasked with mentoring a crack team of young detectives to hunt down an elusive gang of thieves that has been running circles around law enforcement. The narrative pits old-school surveillance tactics against cutting-edge tech in what's being billed as a tension-filled game of cat and mouse.

The project assembles a powerhouse cast that bridges generations of Asian entertainment. Chan shares the screen with Zhang Zifeng, the breakout star of "Sister" and "The Volunteers" franchise, alongside rising talent Ci Sha, fresh from his turn in the "Creation of the Gods" epic. In a notable crossover casting coup, the film features Jun (Wen Junhui) of K-pop supergroup Seventeen, marking a significant step in the performer's acting career.

The production also heralds a long-awaited reunion between Chan and five-time Hong Kong Film Award winner Tony Leung Ka-fai. The veteran performers haven't shared the screen since their 2005 collaboration on "The Myth." Leung, who's also set to appear in Tsui Hark's anticipated "Legends of the Condor Heroes," brings additional star power to the ensemble.

Victoria Hon, who previously produced "Ride On," returns to shepherd the project. The film is backed by iQiyi Pictures, Tao Tickets, Hairun Pictures and China ChenXiang.

Sales outfit Golden Network Asia, which has handled Chan's recent global hits including "Ride On," "Vanguard," "Kung Fu Yoga," "Railroad Tigers" and "Dragon Blade," will present "The Shadow's Edge" to international buyers at the upcoming European Film Market.
