2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 Certified in Australia Ahead of Official Reveal

Ducati is set to announce its new Multistrada V4 tomorrow at 1 pm EST/10 am PST, but we’ve got an early glimpse of the new adventure-touring model and some initial details thanks to a vehicle certification document from Australia.

The certification document includes two color photos of the 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4, though they’re unfortunately in a small resolution. Nevertheless, it’s enough to confirm some details. The overall styling follows a similar look to the Multistrada 1260 and 950 models, but with some noticeable differences.

The headlight is perched on top of a small beak like the V-Twin models, but we can make out a small gap in the black beak just below where it meets the red bodywork. This is where Ducati has positioned the forward Bosch radar sensors that will enable the Multistrada V4’s adaptive cruise control system.

While we can’t see much of the main frame, the Multistrada V4’s red trellis subframe is clearly visible. The subframe mounts to the side pivot plates instead of being a single integrated unit as on the other Mulitstradas, which should make it easier to repair.

Also visible is the exhaust that rises parallel to the subframe, giving the silencer a higher position than is found on the other Multistrada models. The magneisum-colored 1158cc V4 Granturismo engine contrasts against the bike’s black, red and silver design, instead of blending in like on the V-Twin models.

The certification documents affirm the V4 Granturismo’s claimed output of 170 hp at 10,500 rpm.

Below the exhaust, we spy a double-sided swingarm, which should help differentiate it from the Multistrada 1260’s single-sided design. The V4 also loses the 1260’s tire-hugging fender, but it gains a long undertail license plate holder. The stalk’s length likely helps keep the plate down and away to provide enough clearance for the rear radar sensor mounted below the taillight.

The certification document confirms the Multistrada V4 will be offered in regular and S versions. It also confirms a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel for both versions. The Multistrada V4 in the photo has cast wheels, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility of wire spoke wheels on the S model.

The document also lists a tare weight of 228 kg (502.6 pounds) which should account for all of its fluids except with a partially-full fuel tank. By comparison, certification documents for the Multistrada 1260 lists a tare weight of 232 kg (511.5 pounds).

We’ll know more about the 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 after it’s official reveal on Wednesday.
