Tribit has come out with some great speakers at low prices redefining high quality at a rock bottom price. We reviewed the Tribit Xsound Go and were no disappointed, so when it’s bigger brother, the MaxSound Plus, we couldn’t wait to see what they’d come out with this time.
The MaxSound Plus comes with a 24-watt speaker, a durable hard plastic rounded case and a fine mesh grill on the front. Since it’s waterproof all the buttons are built into the case and the ports on the back, a 3.5mm headphone jack and the MicroUSB port for charging a sealed behind a thick flap. It’s actually not the easy to open, so it’s a good thing the 2200mAh battery is rated to last 20 hours. We played it for 3 days 8 hours a day and we still didn’t have to charge it. We were listening to it a pretty low volume, working at our desk with the speaker 1 foot from our keyboard, if you turned it up it obviously goes through the battery faster.
The MaxSound Plus the bass has enough definition to sound like it’s being produced by an actual bass guitar. The instrument sounds are clear and true to life, even at maximum volume, it does not distort. (way too loud for me in a quiet room, it actually reached up to block my ears). When I brought it over to a friends house for a dinner party it filled a 20m room easily with sound and when things got rowdier later in the night it had no problem with that either. After 5 hours of moderate and 5 hours of party, level sounds it didn’t run out of battery.
The speaker sounds even and well balanced and doesn’t strain to produce adequate bass. I say adequate because these compact speakers can only produce so much bass. In other words, don’t expect the MaxSound Plus’ bass to rattle the walls of your home.
There’s an extra bass button that rounds out the bass with a little more thump. You’ll probably want to leave the bass boost on at all times, we’re not sure why you’d want to have the sound less full. The MaxSound Plus is IPX7 certified, which means it’s fully waterproof and can be submerged in up to 3 feet (1 meter) of water for up to 30 minutes. We gave it a dunk and it survived.
It’s hard to believe that the Tribit MaxSound Plus is only $55.99 on Amazon, the sound on this speaker hits well above its price point.
