If you have a smartwatch running Google’s Wear OS (the smartwatch OS formerly known as Android Wear), and you happen to be a Spotify subscriber, then you’re in luck because the streaming music platform has just announced a brand new and much-improved app for your wearable.
Spotify is launching a brand new Wear OS app today, which will let owners not only control music playback on their wrist, but also access playlists and additional content right from the small display on their wrist. It supports podcast playback as well, so you can skip back 15 seconds if you need to. Users will be able to access their Discovery Weekly playlist right from their wrist, and with Spotify Connect they will also be able to control playback even if the music is playing on a speaker.
Spotify says the new integration also makes it easy to launch recently played tracks right from the smartwatch, and users will be able to favorite their favorite tracks by tapping the “heart” icon just like they can on the smartphone app.
Spotify’s updated app is rolling out now, but the company says it may take a few weeks to reach all users. You can find a link to the app below, which is free to download and install, but the standard monthly subscription for an individual is $9.99 per month.
The streaming music company has also announced a big partnership with Fossil, which will see the Spotify app “auto-installed on all Fossil Gen 4 Smartwatches and Michael Kors Access Runway Smartwatches”.
