Last year, a new dating app launched called Yboo. It’s a “girls-friendly” dating app, which means that men have to be the creative ones, while the women are able to browse through the guys that are nearby and decide whether they “like” them or not. The app works to facilitate a meeting between the two parties, instead of just endless chats and swiping left or right. It is also designed to make the girl feel comfortable, as they are able to stay incognito until they decide they want to chat with a guy. Yboo makes men work for their dates as well, instead of just booking a hotel room and ordering flowers, they need to impress the girl before they even get a chance to talk to her. This app is going to help both men and women find a date – whether it is just for the night or forever.
Setting up Yboo is pretty simple. It’ll ask you whether you are a guy or a girl. Afterwards, you’ll need to fill out your name, height, and age, as well as upload a picture. After you’ve done that, the app will then ask you a few questions, which is going to put together your “ideal date” and that will be shown in your profile when others see your profile. This is a really important part, seeing as this is what women are going to see when your profile appears in their feed. And you’re going to want a good first impression. These questions will write an ideal date for you, which you can put in your profile, or you can edit it yourself, but remember that you are trying to impress a girl with this ideal date.
Speaking of the profile, it will show a picture of yourself that you uploaded, as well as your age, height and your bio. The height is in centimeters, so those that are in the US will need to translate it from feet/inches to centimeters. You can choose to edit your profile at any time, and even choose to add more pictures to your profile. Just hit the pencil icon in the upper right-hand corner on the profile page (which is the first tab).
The middle tab is where you’ll find your dates. This includes showing you how many views you have received, and who has liked your profile. If you are a woman using the app, this is where you’ll find a list of guys that you can “like”. The app will show those that are the closest to you – and this isn’t based on your zip code or city that you input in your bio (actually it doesn’t ask for that at all), instead this is done using GPS. So if you have traveled to another city – maybe for vacation – you’ll get a different crop of guys than you would at home. The list shows a small picture of them, with their first name and age. It also shows their “ideal date” which we talked about above. You can tap on the card to see the rest of that users pictures and decide if you like them or not. There is a heart there for “liking” the user. Once you like them, they will appear in the messages section.
And finally the third tab is where you’ll find your messages. Now if you are a male, you will need to wait for a female to find your profile and “like” it. Once they like it, the user will appear in the messages section. You can choose to message them first, or wait for her to message your first. But you’ll have 24 hours to get a date set up, before the message will be erased and gone forever. For the females, as soon as you “like” a guy’s profile, he will appear in the messages tab. You can choose to message them first, or wait for them to message you. Like with the males, you will have 24 hours to respond and get together, before the message is erased. It will also indicate who is currently online with a green dot below their profile picture, or a red dot indicating they are not online.
After you are all set up, it’s mostly just a wait and see thing for guys. For girls, you’ll be able to start finding guys from the “Dates” tab. From there, you’ll be able to find some guys to talk to, and you can take it from there. So if you happen to come across a guy that looks good, and has a nice “ideal date” in his profile, you can like that person’s profile and immediately send him a message or wait for him to message you. Guys do generally like girls that make the first move, but that’s up to you. It’s a pretty easy-to-use app, and it helps make it easier for women to find guys to date. Which is actually a good thing nowadays, seeing as it is pretty difficult for women to find guys to date without feeling pressured. And the fact that women can choose which profiles see their own profile is another big plus.
Yboo, like most dating apps these days, do offer a premium subscription. This subscription is $11.99 per month, and there is a free seven-day trial available that all new users can take advantage of. There is no payment made until after the seven days are you, and you can opt to cancel the free trial before the seven days are up as well. It’s an in-app purchase, so the subscription is maintained by the Google Play Store. This means that you are not giving any credit card information to Yboo, and you can choose to cancel your subscription through the Play Store.
There are just a few rules with Yboo, that the app requires the men to follow. These include “Be Polite, Mind your Language, Stick to your Promises, and No Means No”. Yboo takes these very seriously and says that if someone is reported for breaking these rules, they will be banned. For the women, there are really no rules, and that is because this app is mostly driven by the women. Yboo is a great app for finding a permanent partner or a data for the evening, and it is done pretty quickly, so you aren’t forced to wait around for hours or days to find a date. This is because chats are erased after 24 hours, so you do have a time limit to respond – whether you are a girl or a guy.
Ratings
- Speed (4/5) – The app is pretty fast to open, almost instantly.
- Theme (4/5) – It’s a somewhat dark theme, though it’s not black or even gray, instead it’s a dark blue
- Features (4/5) – It’s not a super feature robust app here, but it has all the necessary features
- Overall (4/5) – It’s a pretty good dating app, and while it does have a smaller user-base, you aren’t getting bombarded with spammers.
Pros
- Easy to setup
- Good looking app
- No spammers filling up your inbox
- Women get to choose who they talk to
Cons
- In-app purchases, with the premium subscription starting at $7.99 for seven days and going up from there.
- Not a whole lot of people using the app, so your matches may few and far between – particularly for men, since women are the only ones able to hit “like”. We found only about five people within 50 miles of us.
Yboo is such a great app, because it allows women to remain incognito, so if they aren’t looking for a date right now, they don’t need to find one, or be pestered by guys looking for one. The app is designed to help everyone find a permanent partner, or just a date for the evening, and by being a girls-friendly app, it allows women to feel more secure. Yboo makes sure that you have a real beautiful story with a stunning ending, whether that’s an unforgettable night in a hotel room, or even a wedding down the road.
