Qualcomm’s 600 series of Snapdragon processors is growing again.
The Snapdragon 675 features Kryo 460 CPU with eight cores: two performance and six efficiency. Qualcomm claims that the Kryo 460 offers a 20 percent overall performance improvement over its predecessor. The company adds that it’s focused on gaming performance with the SD675, taking steps like working with game developers and making optimizations for games and game engines like Unity and Unreal. Also of note is that the GPU in the Snapdragon 675 is an Adreno 612.
Photography is another major focus of the Snapdragon 675. The new chipset supports a triple camera configuration in the front or back and can support many of the popular camera features of smartphones today, including enhanced portrait mode, 3D face unlock, wide angle, super wide angle, and telephoto up to 5x optical zoom. And when it comes to video, the Snapdragon 675 offers 4K video capture at 30fps as well as HD slow-mo video recording at 480fps, the latter of which is a first on a 600-series chipset.
Qualcomm is calling out the AI improvements of the SD675 as well. For example, its multi-core AI Engine can offer up to 50 percent overall improvements in AI applicationsm helping to learn and adapt to a user’s voice and optimize battery life. The new Snapdragon 675 is also ready for AI features like scene and object detection in the camera, face unlock and payment security, and translation.
There’s a Snapdragon X12 modem in the Snapdragon 675 that offers support for download speeds up to 600Mbps, 256 QAM, and up to 3x carrier aggregation. And when it’s time to recharge, the SD675′s Quick Charge 4+ support can get your battery from 0 to 50 percent in just 15 minutes. Qualcomm also touts that the SD675 includes support for its Aqstic and aptX audio technologies.
Qualcomm says that we should begin seeing the Snapdragon 675 in consumer devices in Q1 2019, so stay tuned.
