We know that the OnePlus 6T will be announced on October 30, with a release in early November, but there are still some things to learn before the announcement rolls around. That includes what version of software will be on board the upcoming flagship handset.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to the Chinese social network Weibo to answer a fan of the company’s question regarding software updates for the OnePlus 5 series and OnePlus 3 series, saying that both are destined to receive an update to Android 9 Pie at some point in the future. The company’s engineers are working on the update, but there’s no timetable in place just yet, so no date to circle on the calendar.
Looking ahead, Lau did say that the OnePlus 6T will arrive with Android 9 Pie, which is good news for folks who plan on picking up the new handset when it arrives. We have also recently heard that the new phone will boast a “whole new UI” and improvements to the gesture navigation. We also know the OnePlus 6T won’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack, or be IP-rated for water or dust resistance. It will have a notch and an in-display fingerprint reader, though.
Where do you stand with the OnePlus 6T at this point? Are you still looking forward to the launch next month? Or is this a device that’s fallen off your radar?
