In Short: The upcoming OnePlus 6T flagship has just appeared on Geekbench, and the variant of the phone that appeared on the benchmarking website features the Snapdragon 845, 8GB of RAM, and Android 9 Pie. Truth be said, all variants of the OnePlus 6T will ship with the same processor and same software variant, while a 6GB RAM model of the OnePlus 6T is also expected to become available. The device has been able to score 2,510 points in the single-core test on Geekbench, while its multi-core score is 8,639 points. This listing dates back to October 11, and aside from sharing the phone’s benchmarking scores, processor, RAM, and software info, this listing also mentions that the phone’s SoC will be clocked at 1.77GHz, which may or may not be accurate, we’ll see. The model number that the OnePlus 6T appears under is ‘FS FS P8801’, in case you were wondering.
Background: The OnePlus 6T will become official on October 30, the company had confirmed that quite recently. The device will be announced in New York, and the company has once again opted to sell tickets for the event via its official website. At this point, however, it seems like tickets are already gone. The OnePlus 6T will go on sale starting on November 6, that is also something that the company confirmed already, and it seems like that date goes for pretty much all markets the company is planning to sell the device in, including the US, Europe, and India, amongst others. The OnePlus 6T has been leaking for weeks now, and at this point in time, we have a pretty good idea as to what to expect from it, let’s start with the info that has been confirmed by the company already, shall we. OnePlus already confirmed that the device will ship with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner, as expected, while the company also confirmed that a 3.5mm headphone jack will not be a part of the package, contrary to what the OnePlus 6 had to offer.
A couple of days ago, OnePlus’ employee confirmed via the company’s official forums, that a brand new UI is coming to the OnePlus 6T, and that some new navigation gestures will be added to the company’s very own gesture-based navigation solution. OnePlus did not elaborate further on its “new UI”, but it seems like that UI will become available to all OnePlus device that are still being updated by the company, as it’s quite unrealistic that the company would keep in exclusive to the OnePlus 6T. The OnePlus 6T will ship with OxygenOS, of course, which means that OnePlus probably just spruced up its software offering on the OnePlus 6T. Now, as far as navigation is concerned, the company is adding a way to quickly switch between two of the most recent apps you’ve used, and for quickly calling up the Google Assistant, which is something OnePlus users have been complaining about ever since OnePlus’ gesture-based navigation was introduced. By quickly swiping from the center bottom portion of the device, to the mid-right side, you will be able to quickly switch between the last two apps you’ve used. If you’d like to call upon the Google Assistant, all you’ll have to do is hold down the power button for 0.5 seconds.
The OnePlus 6T will be made out of metal and glass, just like its predecessor, though unlike the OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 6T will not sport a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, as already mentioned. The phone’s rear-facing cameras will be vertically-aligned, and OnePlus is planning to implement two of them on the back of the OnePlus 6T. The back of the device will look really similar to the back on the OnePlus 6, but the front side will be somewhat different it seems. The display notch will be a lot smaller on the OnePlus 6T, as the company will include the so-called ‘waterdrop’ notch on the OnePlus 6T, the same one we’ve seen on the OPPO R17. That notch will include the front-facing camera, and an earpiece which will be located above it. The OnePlus 6T will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, while it will arrive in both 6GB and 8GB RAM variants, most probably. Several storage options for the device will be available, while the phone will likely sport a battery of around 3,700mAh, and that battery will not be removable. As far as fast charging is concerned, the same solution that has been available on the OnePlus 6 will be available here as well. The device will include a 6.4-inch fullHD+ Optic AMOLED display, while we’ll probably see 12 and 20-megapixel cameras on the back of the OnePlus 6T. A 25-megapixel front-facing shooter is expected to be included on the phone, while the device will offer two SIM card slots. Do keep in mind that all of these specs are rumored at this point, nothing of the sort has been confirmed just yet.
Impact: The OnePlus 6T will be the company’s second flagship this year, which is a practice that the company has been applying for the last couple of years. In all honesty, the OnePlus 6T will be quite similar to the OnePlus 6 in many ways, as it will share most of its specs with its predecessor, but it will be a more polished device on the outside, mainly because of the noticeably smaller notch. It will be interesting to see how will the company’s optical in-display fingerprint scanner work in practice, as OnePlus’ capacitive fingerprint scanner that is included on the OnePlus 6 is considered to be one of the best and fastest out there. It’s hard to believe that an optical in-display fingerprint scanner will be as good, though OnePlus may surprise us, we’ll just have to wait and see. Other than that, testing the phone’s camera setup will also be something to do, as OnePlus did promise a better camera experience with the OnePlus 6T in a recent forum post, so it remains to be seen if it will be a considerable improvement over the OnePlus 6, and will the company go with the same sensors it included in the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus 6T’s arrival is still about two weeks away, so we’re expecting quite a few additional teasers, rumors and leaks to pop up by then.
