In Short: Makers of Substratum have just released a new launcher to the Google Play Store, a launcher called ‘Hyperion’. It is worth noting that this is a regular launcher, you will not need to root your phone in order to use it, or anything of the sort, but as a launcher, it’s quite functional. This launcher look quite a bit like your regular launcher, it may remind you of Nova Launcher at first, but it comes with its own set of features, that’s for sure. The developers claim that this launcher has been optimized for speed and fluidity, while their goal was to make it as functional as possible. Once you grant this launcher all the necessary permissions (three overall), you will be thrown to its homepage, which, as already mentioned, looks a lot like Nova Launcher’s home page, and home page of many other launchers out there.
At the top of the display you’ll get Google’s Search widget, from which you can either search the internet or fire up the Google Assistant, it’s up to you. That widget can be removed, of course, and you can change various other aspects of this launcher. Hyperion Launcher allows you to customize its dock, folder background, grids, interface, iconography, and so on, there are a ton of options under the hood here. You can fully tweak the home screen, while app opening animations are also available here, and you can choose the one that suits you the most. You can set up home screen gestures as well, though that option is only for ‘Plus’ users, in other words, you’ll need to purchase the Hyperion+ app in order to get access to that feature, and that app costs around $4.
Background: Hyperion Launcher has been downloaded over 500 times thus far, and the app weighs 4.4MB, approximately. You will need Android 5.0+ in order to run this application, while the app is currently holding a 4.5-star rating in the Play Store, after 161 reviews. As already mentioned, this app comes from the developers of Substratum, a company called ‘Projekt Development LLC’, and this is the only other app from the company, in addition to Sungstratum (Substratum for Samsung’s Nougat 7.x smartphones), that is available via the Google Play Store.
Impact: While we were testing Hyperion Launcher, we did not notice any bugs or anything of the sort. The experience overall was quite good, and for such an early launcher build, this app does come with a ton of features packed inside. It may appeal to those of you who are looking or an alternative to Nova Launcher, or some other similar launcher that you’re using thus far. Hyperion Launcher is yet another compelling launcher that hit the Play Store in the last month or so, as Niagara Launcher and Rootless Launcher arrived recently as well, and both of those launchers are quite compelling in their own right, and Rootless Launcher is far more similar to Hyperion Launcher than Niagara Launcher, even though it comes with considerably less features than Hyperion Launcher. If you’re interested in trying out this app, the download link is included down below.
