Huawei has announced the latest entry into the wearable market called the Huawei Watch GT. Unfortunately, it may not be the watch we’re waiting for as Huawei has decided to skip on Wear OS.
The device features a 1.39-inch 454×454 AMOLED display, 16MB of RAM, and 128GB of storage along with Bluetooth 4.2 (and a lack of WiFi connectivity). On the sensor side it’s rocking a barometer, ambient light sensor, optical heart rate sensor, magnetometer, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and NFC.
The specs and lack of Wear OS may be disappointing but the watch makes up for it in battery life. You’ll see 14 days of typical use with 90 minutes of exercise per week and full time heart rate monitoring enabled. With heart rate monitoring off, that can be stretched out to 30 days. While exercising it can last up to 22 hours with GPS on.
This definitely seems like a sport watch first and foremost. There are many features aimed at fitness like cycling assessment, swimming support, sleep monitoring, and more. The lack of ability of running Wear OS apps makes it less useful for daily use.
The Huwaei Watch GT Sport is launching in London for €199 ($231 USD) and the Classic model is €249 ($289 USD).
The company also announced the Band 3 Pro, the latest wearable in the sport-focused Huawei Band lineup. The little device features a 0.95-inch AMOLED display, GPS, sleep monitoring, heart rate monitoring, and more. This wearable is launching in London for €99 ($115 USD).
