Alcatel and T-Mobile are teaming up to launch a new Android tablet.
Meet the Alcatel 3T 8. This new device is packing an 8-inch 1280×800 display, 5MP front and rear cameras, and 16GB of built-in storage with a microSD slot for adding more storage. Alcatel has included a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8765A processor with its new tablet along with 2GB of RAM and a 4080mAh battery. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio support in there, too, as well as a microUSB port for charging.
When it comes to software, the Alcatel 3T 8 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo in tow. Alcatel is packing in some of its own custom features as well, like a CloserTV app that gathers video services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video as well as cable and satellite TV to make it easy for you to find and view content on your tablet. There’s also a Kids Mode that offers parental controls for setting things like usage time limits and selecting which apps your child can use.
One of the most notable features of the Alcatel 3T 8 is its cellular connectivity. Specifically, it’s the first tablet to offer support for T-Mobile’s 600MHz (Band 71) LTE coverage, which reaches farther and is better at penetrating buildings than mid-band LTE coverage. T-Mobile recently said that its 600MHz LTE is available in more than 1,250 markets. In addition to supporting Band 71, the Alcatel 3T 8 offers LTE Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, and 66.
The Alcatel 3T 8 will launch at T-Mobile on October 12th at a price of $6 down and $6 per month for 24 months, or $150 full retail. It’s not a super high-end device, but it does look like it could be a nice option for someone that they can throw in a bag and use to watch videos while on the go.
