T-Mobile confirms it suffered a security breach on August 20

T-Mobile has announced that earlier this week it suffered a security breach that resulted in some personal information being obtained by malicious individuals.

The Un-carrier confirmed that on Monday, August 20, it was hit by a security breach from overseas sources. T-Mobile says that while some personal information was obtained, which could include email addresses, account numbers, billing zip codes, and phone numbers, the attackers did not obtain any financial information, including credit card numbers, bank account information, social security numbers, or passwords.

We take the security of your information very seriously and have a number of safeguards in place to protect your personal information from unauthorized access. We truly regret that this incident occurred and are so sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.

T-Mobile will inform you directly via email or SMS if you were directly impacted by the breach. You can also get in touch with T-Mobile directly by dialing 611 from your phone, or visiting MyT-Mobile.com. You can use the T-Mobile app on your mobile device as well. Meanwhile, business customers and folks using MetroPCS should dial 611.

T-Mobile’s quick action may have prevented even more information from being stolen, but while no financial information was revealed to the attackers, it’s still a major security breach.

Did you get notified by T-Mobile that some of your data was improperly accessed?
