The LG V40 has been depicted in a high-resolution video render authored by industry insider Steve Hemmerstoffer, better known by his social media handle @OnLeaks. The clip that can be seen below is mostly in line with previous rumors about the upcoming Android flagship and is only a second potential look at the handset after several supposedly official press renders of the device found their way online earlier this month. As was the case with other illustrations authored by Mr. Hemmerstoffer, the new depiction of the LG V40 is said to be based on the latest credible information about the upcoming smartphone and should be a relatively accurate representation of the final product.
Compared to the LG V35 ThinQ and the G7 ThinQ, one of the most obvious changes introduced with the V40 comes in the form of a triple-camera setup entailing three horizontally arranged sensors on the back of the device. The row is completed with the addition of a dual-LED (dual-tone) flash unit, with the entire imaging module being situated above a circular fingerprint reader akin to the one seen on the back panels of all other contemporary Android flagships from the South Korean tech giant. The handset has also been visualized with a relatively compact display notch housing a dual-camera array and an earpiece, with the inclusion of a bottom-facing speaker implying LG is sticking with its stereo setup design. The two-sensor camera system on the front should both deliver a more natural bokeh effect in selfies and improve the speed and accuracy of LG’s facial recognition technology.
The same source claims LG’s V40 will be around 158.8 x 75.8 x 7.8mm in size, thus being significantly larger than all other members of its product family save for the 2015 V10. A 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port can be seen as being part of the package as well. The V40 is likely to be introduced as part of LG‘s AI-focused ThinQ brand but is expected to miss IFA, the venue traditionally used for new V-series product launches. Instead, the Android flagship is now rumored to be announced no earlier than the first week of October, making it unclear whether it will go on sale in time for this year’s holiday season, historically the most lucrative period of the year for handset makers.
