Google Pixel 3 Flagships Launching Later Than Expected: Report

Google will be launching the Pixel 3 lineup of Android flagships later than expected, with the company planning to do so on the Tuesday of October 9 instead of the widely rumored October 4 date which falls on Friday, Bloomberg reports, citing sources close to Alphabet’s subsidiary. The announcement will take place at a New York City event, as per the same sources, with no further details on the matter being revealed. Google’s annual hardware event took place on October 4 for two years in a row now, with recent rumors suggesting that will once again be the case this fall. When asked about the veracity of the claim about the revised launch date by Bloomberg, a Google representative declined to comment.

While the smaller Pixel 3 has still been evading the public spotlight relatively successfully so far, the Pixel 3 XL started leaking en masse last week after a pre-production batch was stolen from Foxconn. The devices in question ended up with a Ukrainian black market dealer who has been selling them for $2,000 a piece and possibly made around $250,000 with that endeavor. Due to that development, the appearance of the Pixel 3 XL has already been well-documented, with the handset being repeatedly sighted with a relatively thick display notch housing a dual-camera setup, as well as a single rear-facing imaging sensor.

Wireless charging support should be a novel part of the package, together with a new Pixel Visual Core chip dedicated to image processing that will handle more than HDR+ this time around, insiders claimed last week. The device should be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, with its base model offering 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space. While a microSD card slot isn’t expected to be included, both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are likely to arrive with unlimited Google Photos storage for photos and videos captured with the two Android flagships. Besides the new smartphone lineup, Google’s 2018 hardware event should also see the introduction of the Pixelbook 2, Pixel Buds 2, and the company’s first Pixel-branded smartwatches running Wear OS.
