New OnePlus 5/5T Update Improves Camera, Bluetooth, And More

OnePlus on Friday started distributing a new update to its 2017 Android devices, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, delivering it in the form of OxygenOS 5.1.4. The company’s latest software revision debuts camera and Bluetooth performance improvements, addresses a number of known bugs, and comes with a range of other tweaks, changes, and feature additions meant to improve the overall user experience of the two devices. The default Camera app pre-installed on the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T should now deliver clearer photographs, the Chinese phone maker said, without elaborating on the matter.

The software package also comes bundled with the July Android security update, as well as an automated sleep standby optimization mechanism. The latter can be activated in the “Battery” section of the system Settings app. From there, tap “Battery optimization,” open the “Advanced optimization” interface, and you’ll be able to enable the “Sleep standby optimization” option on the following screen. The default Gallery app found on the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T has also been reworked, with the Shenzhen, Guangdong-based smartphone manufacturer specifically focusing on eliminating bugs from the mobile tool. Group messaging support is also part of the package, together with improved Android Auto performance as OnePlus’s latest OxygenOS version eliminates a known ringtone bug that often occurred due to unspecified Bluetooth issues.

As is always the case, the new custom Android implementation designed for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T is being distributed over the air and is now rolling out in stages, meaning it might take several days until a system notification prompts you to download and install the latest firmware. Users who are feeling particularly impatient can always attempt to trigger the download manually through the Settings app. OnePlus is still planning to continue supporting its 2017 devices for the foreseeable future, the company said as part of its OxygenOS 5.1.4 announcement.
